Macaroni wigs at the time were extremely fashionable and this led to Macaroni being a contemporary slang for foppishness/fashionable. Doodle meant idiot and Yankee was a term for Colonials. Sooooo basically the ryhme is saying “Americans are such uncivilized dickheads that they could stick a feather in their cap and think themselves fancy.”

… And why was I not taught this in school alongside the years of repetitive American history?

Explanation just makes the fact that this song is repeatedly sung on kid’s shows without context more hilarious.

Half Marathon in two days!

On Saturday, starting at 7:30 AM I’m going to try running 13.1 miles. It should be pretty achievable and it’s going to be fun!

Today as I was running through a park this 13 year old girl ran out to me and handed me a water bottle from her family’s fiesta and was like ‘we have extras!’ and it was so great and refreshing and gave me extra faith in humanity and people from Fargo. I just imagine the whole marathon is going to be like that. Plus I picked up my packet today and a bunch of samples from the health food places so it’s going to be pretty cool.

Yeah. Running.

Suppose next year I do the full marathon. JUST SUPPOSE.
